This essential route runs through the western province of Chiriquí, the epicenter of Panamanian coffee production and the chief producer of highly sought-after specialty coffee beans.
This initiative aims to elevate the profile of this fertile region, which includes the picturesque districts of Boquete, Tierras Altas, and Renacimiento. The ATP now successfully positions Chiriquí as a Destination Brand with a seal of international quality. The Circuit derives its value from the region’s unique terroir, where mineral-rich volcanic soils and an ideal microclimate on the slopes of the Barú Volcano nourish the crops.
The Coffee Circuit delivers a completely immersive sensory experience to both national and foreign visitors. Tourists are not mere spectators; they actively visit high-altitude farms to witness the full coffee cycle: from planting, harvesting, processing, and packaging, to the culmination of a professional tasting, or “from seed to cup.” This journey encourages direct and authentic contact with the farmers, who form the heart of this artisanal work.
The farms lie in areas that showcase a spectacular variety of landscapes, adventures, and rich biodiversity. Visitors easily complement their coffee tour with agro-ecotourism activities like hiking, spotting endemic birds, and enjoying the high-level gastronomy and quality lodging found throughout the region. The area also produces flowers, milk, vegetables, and legumes, adding even more diversity to its appeal.
The success of this product rests on the quality of the aromatic coffee from the Panamanian highlands, especially the Geisha variety. This exotic bean has earned global acclaim as the jewel in the crown of world coffee, breaking records in international auctions and launching Panama’s name to the top of the industry. To ensure a world-class tourist experience, the ATP and its strategic partners continuously train guides, hoteliers, and tour operators in culture, tourism development, and digital marketing tools.
